IOC President Jacques Rogge Welcomes New Tenants to the MSI

More than 20 international sports organisations move under one roof in Lausanne.

“La Maison du Sport International” (the MSI – the House of International Sport) officially opened its doors on June 23rd in Lausanne, Switzerland, as the Olympic Capital celebrated the Olympic Day.

More than 600 guests, including IOC President Jacques Rogge and Lausanne Mayor Daniel Brélaz, officially opened the new 4’300 sq. m. building, located just five minutes away from the IOC headquarters, on the shore of Lake Leman.

A first of its kind, the MSI has been created in an effort to bring together international sports organisations under one roof, not only to cut administration costs by grouping resources, but also to create a real platform for exchange of experience and knowledge.

The MSI reinforces the position of Lausanne as the international center of sports management, and is populated not only by Federations whose headquarters were already based in the area, but also by new organisations that saw real benefits in joining this concept.

While the entire available space has already been rented in the three newly built buildings, the construction of additional space could start once enough interest has been confirmed.

The organisations based in the MSI are (in no particular order):

IOC Television and Marketing Services SA, Finance and Administration department, Medical and Scientific department; International Cooperation and Development department

WADA Europe

Sportaccord

Association of Summer Olympic International Federations – ASOIF

International Sports Press Association – AIPS

International Amateur Boxing Federation – AIBA

International Federation of Sports Chiropractic – FICS

International Archery Federation – FITA

International Rowing Federation – FISA

International Fencing Federation – FIE

World Bridge Federation – WBF

Ju-Jitsu International Federation – JJIF

International Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Federation – FIBT

International Canoe Federation – FIC

International Masters Games Association – IMGA

World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry – WFSGI

International Academy of Sports Science and Technology – AISTS

Additionally, two organisations currently not based in Lausanne have chosen to have a permanent representation office in the MSI. These include the International Badminton Federation and the World Taekwon-do Federation. A few other commercial organisations also have decided to be present in the MSI.

During the opening statements of the inauguration, IOC President Jacques Rogge said: “We at the IOC are not only happy to be one of the tenants of this beautiful space, but we are also proud to be located in a city that is constantly looking for ways to encourage exchange of knowledge and experience between sports organisations. We strongely support this idea.”
