Irish Rugby Football Union Committee member, John Hussey, has been appointed chairman of the Celtic League Association.

A member of St Mary’s College RFC, the Dublin-based businessman is also chairman of the IRFU Strategic Planning Group; chairman of the IRFU charitable trust and a member of the IRFU finance and representative games committee.

The new Celtic League chairman, who succeeds SRU Chief Executive Bill Watson, said: ‘This competition has been very successful in its first two years of existence. With TV audiences of around two million for the two finals to date and healthy increases in match attendances across all three countries last season, we look to the future with confidence.

‘The Celtic League is a great addition to the representative calendar and I believe it will make a significant contribution to achieving the playing and commercial objectives of the Celtic Nations.’

The Celtic League is also recruiting a Tournament Director and interviews for this important post will take place later this month.
