The Rt Hon Richard Caborn MP, Craig Reedie and Michel Zen-Ruffinen head a distinguished cast of over 80 leading names and experts in their fields representing some of the worlds foremost international sporting events, who will line up for the inaugural BID TO BENEFIT CONFERENCE, being held in Manchester (5th to 7th August 2002).

BID TO BENEFIT is the first conference to devote itself to the business of Bidding for and hosting of major international sports events. It is supported by the Manchester Investment & Development Agency Service (MIDAS) as part of the Commonwealth Games Business Club programme of events.

Coming immediately after the XVII Commonwealth Games, itself widely expected to be the most successful in history, the BID TO BENEFIT CONFERENCE is an opportunity for delegates to learn from experts from all over the world how to bid successfully for international sporting events.

In addition to Richard Caborn (UK Minister for Sport), Craig Reedie (Chairman of the British Olympic Association) and Michel Zen-Ruffinen (Retiring General Secretary of FIFA), Danny Jordaan (CEO South Africa 2006 for the FIFA World Cup) will be speaking and Dr Jacques Rogge (President of The International Olympic Committee) will be making a video address to the Conference.

The Conference will broaden knowledge of the Bidding process and allow countries and cities that previously lacked knowledge or experience to bid in the future. Attendance at the Conference will help contenders in the bidding process establish greater credibility by improving the quality of bids.

Events represented include:
FIFA World Cup Germany 2006
Commonwealth Games Manchester 2002
FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan 2002
Winter Olympics Salt Lake City 2002
Ryder Cup Golf
World Motor Sports

Who is registering to attend Bid to Benefit?

We have already registered delegates from countries and cities bidding to host major games, in particular the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championships. Delegates clearly think that attending Bid to Benefit will both highlight their bid and provide them with invaluable information. This list includes bid teams and government/national/local authorities as well as sports and tourism associations and organisations. Other early registrants include those firms and professionals working in the global sports industry whose services are essential to host countries and cities. These include legal and financial services, ticketing and accommodation agencies, design and construction firms and media companies.

Recent programme additions, including a panel from Formula One, World Rally and Sportscar Championships and a panel on bidding for the Ryder Cup Golf will widen the delegate base even further.
