LINCOLN FINANCIAL GROUP WORLD CUP’S ú1 MILLION BOOST!

Rugby League World Cup 2000 Limited has today received a ú1 million lift as it starts the countdown to the big kick off on Saturday, October 28.

UK Sport made a massive contribution to the World Cup good news day when it made an award of up to ú350,000 to the tournament under the banner of its Lottery Backed World Class Events Programme.

This new UK Sport programme is designed to attract major sports events to the United Kingdom and Rugby League World Cup 2000 Ltd., the organisers of the tournament, are one of the many major events to benefit.

Neil Tunnicliffe, the Lincoln Financial Group Rugby League World Cup tournament director, said: ‘We believe that this year’s World Cup is now in a far better position to develop its potential as the biggest international competition being staged in Britain during the millennium year as the result of this funding award.

‘Quite clearly the Lincoln Financial Group Rugby League Cup is the quality of competition that UK Sport had in mind when they constructed the programme and we are grateful that they have backed us with a substantial sum of money.’

With ú700,000 now already guaranteed from licensing and hospitality agreements the Lincoln Financial Group Rugby League World Cup has now delivered a ú1 million package to the tournament.

Further major sponsorship deals are expected to be made public within the coming weeks and after an encouraging start to ticket sales since the announcement of the match schedule Rugby League’s global tournament is starting to gather pace.

Added Rugby League World Cup 2000 Limited Marketing Director Neal Coupland: ‘The World Cup will prove to be a watershed for the commercial structure of the whole sport.

‘We believe that the tournament is going to be a huge financial success for Rugby League and these developments are an indication that we are moving in the right direction.’
