Madrid, January 5th 2005
Madrid 2012 Olympic Office has decided to make a direct contribution of 100,000 euros to help those affected by the tsunami that has devastated several Asian countries. The sum of money will be given to UNICEF and a bank account will be opened so the Olympic project’s collaborating companies (103 right now) will be able to make their own direct contributions to this humanitarian cause.
Madrid 2012 is aware of the serious consequences of this recent tragedy. In a first moment, the Olympic Office sent telegrams of condolence to the Olympic Committees of the affected countries, but, given the seriousness of the catastrophe, Madrid’s bid has decided to make a direct contribution to relief efforts. Feliciano Mayoral, President-CEO of Madrid 2012, has stated that ‘we have to show our support in this moment, our priority now must be the tragedy that is taking place in that zone of the world. And we also want to coordinate from our office the economic help of our collaborating companies’.
Once again, although this time is a consequence of an international tragedy, Madrid 2012 has mobilized all its collaborating companies in order to increase the sum of 100,000 euros that has already been given to UNICEF. Roberto Sanz Pinacho, Managing Director of Madrid 2012 Foundation, believes that also this time ‘the companies linked to the Olympic project will show their solidarity, although it is possible that some of them have already showed their generosity with their own contribution’.
The Madrid 2012 Foundation is in charge of the management of the economic contributions of the 103 collaborating companies. In this moment, Madrid 2012 has 20 Platinum collaborators, 30 Gold ones, 15 companies in the Silver category and 38 in the Bronze one.
