Madrid Chosen to Host Taekwondo World Championships

The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) has designated the city of Madrid to host the next Absolute World Championships of this martial art, which will take place in the capital of Spain in 2005. The championships will be celebrated in the remodelled Sports Palace of Madrid and will assemble over 1.500 athletes of about 180 countries. Spain, second world power in this modality, only surpassed by South Korea, will have the opportunity to defend its condition of great favourite wrapped up by the public from Madrid.

Madrid, that is bidding to host the 2012 Olympic Games, will feel proud of staging a competition of such a relevancy, one of the most important events in taekwondo, an olympic sport since the Games of Sydney. The level of infrastructures and the organizational capacity that Madrid has demonstrated in major sport events have been key factors for the designation of the capital of Spain as host city of the 17th Men World Taekwondo Championships and the 10th Women World Championships of this discipline in 2005.
