The City Hall of Madrid has approved the Special Plan that will allow the development of the Olympic Ring included in Madrid 2012’s bid, an area of 1,2 million square meters that includes the Olympic Stadium, the Olympic Pavilion and the Aquatic Center. The Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, assures that ‘the horizon of the Olympic Ring places beyond the proper Olympic Games’, and will be re-used ‘as a great sport park of daily use’ for all the people of Madrid.

The Olympic Ring Special Plan, which will have the Olympic Village in the eastern part, includes the construction of three new Subway stations and a Railway station. Besides the Stadium, which will be extended up to 75.000 localities; the Aquatic Center, already in construction with 20.000 spectators capacity; and the Olympic Pavilion, which will have an appraisal of 15.000 persons, in the Olympic Ring will be constructed an area of athletics training, a provisional and detachable velodrome, a hotel complex, parkings and a heliport.

In the set of the area they will be able to remain separated sportsmen, organization, press and public and the athletes will be able to accede to the stadium and to the training tracks across an exclusive circuit connected with the Olympic Village. Ruiz-Gallardón explains that in the design of the Olympic Ring has been born in mind environmental, sustainability and accessibility criteria.
