Craig McLatchey, chief executive office of Olympic Knowledge Services has joined the ever-growing line-up of influential and expert speakers confirmed for the first International Sports Security Summit, at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference centre, London on October 27 and 28.

McLatchey is the inaugural CEO of Olympic Knowledge Services, which is owned by the International Olympic Committee. OGKS was launched after the highly successful Sydney 2000 Games. He will review the security issues facing major event organisers in the context of overall games planning and operations.

‘I am delighted to be taking part in the International Sports Security Summit,’ said McLatchey.

‘This is a particularly timely conference which will bring together representatives of all those parties who have an interest in the security and safety of major events. Its aim is to create a forum for the exchange of information experiences and information which will equip the officials of sports federations, police security services, and national and local government with far greater understanding of the threats they face and their role in developing strategies and executing programmes to combat those threats.

Other confirmed speakers include Harvey Schiller, chairman of Global Solutions Inc, Chief Superintendent Bob Mackie of the Metropolitan Police, Rory Steyn, of the Security Directorate if the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup and Ben van Deventer, Director of the South African Police Service. The International Sports Security Summit ‘04 has been created for events professionals, sports administrators, club officials, police, security and intelligence agencies, emergency services and representatives of the private security sector.

In association with media partner SportBusiness International, the two-day conference and exhibition will examine the worsening security climate, assess the threat to sports events and provide insight and practical advice on the steps to be taken to develop and implement appropriate security strategies and programmes.
