Queensland, which has staged the event for the past three years, has been dropped as the venue of the Xtreme Games in Australia. Instead, the Planet X Summer Xtreme Games will instead be held in Melbourne from December this year, with the 2001 festival planned for Sydney in March. Melbourne and Sydney had developed strong demand to host the event, involving hundreds of competitors from around the world and attracting over 50,000 spectators. In the last three years there has been dynamic growth in the number of events, competitors, media coverage and sponsorship with the concept of Extreme Sports. I fact extreme events are considered to be the most popular sporting events for youth viewing in America. The Planet X Summer Xtreme games features international standard sports competition in events such as skateboarding, freestyle MotoX, wakeboarding, BMX stunt, aggressive inline skating, bouldering, sky surfing, street luge and many others. The games will also go global this year with more international competitors and extensive TV programming with millions of viewers across Europe, North America, South America, South Africa and the Asia Pacific region. The 2000 Planet X Winter Xtreme Games will be staged at Perisher Blue Ski Resort from September 3 to 6. Sportcal.com
