The Sharks – Super 12 and Currie Cup giant of South African rugby – have concluded a five-year commercial representation agreement with Mark McCormack’s International Management Group (IMG).
The Sharks, who have undoubtedly built one of world rugby’s biggest brands over the past few years, are aware of the growing financial pressures that have come into the professional game and have chosen IMG to look after the all important commercial revenue stream for them.
Brian van Zyl, CEO of Natal Sharks (Pty) Ltd, commented on the agreement, ‘IMG certainly has a fantastic track record and we are confident that they will, for the next five years, add value for The Sharks not only nationally in South Africa, but also internationally.
We are looking forward to working with their professional team to promote our brand and to explore all commercial opportunities which will become available.’
IMG, are thrilled to add The Sharks to their ever increasing portfolio within rugby. IMG currently represent the television and commercial rights to the Rugby World Cup, current world champions Australia and Wales.
Said Fred Fensham, Managing Director IMG SA, ‘We are extremely excited to represent The Sharks as we see the brand as the most exciting and valuable sports brand in South Africa and we look forward to a successful relationship over the next five years.’
