The Championship women’s golf tournament in the United Kingdom will be revamped next year, with the LPGA co-sanctioning the event with the Ladies European Tour (LET), and Golf Saudi providing financial backing.

The event will have an overall prize purse of $4 million and be played between 19 and 25 July 2027, giving the event “a premium position in the summer schedule.”

The LPGA already plays overseas at that time of the year, with two majors held in July – the Women’s British Open and Amundi Evian Championship.

The Championship appears to be taking the place of the Women’s Scottish Open, which is reportedly no longer on the LPGA schedule.

The $4 million prize fund will place the tournament among the largest events in women’s professional golf.

The Championship has been held in the UK since 2021 under the PIF Global Series moniker. It has typically been staged in August.

In 2027, The Championship joins both the LPGA Tour and LET schedules, bringing together leading players from around the world in one field.

The latest edition of the event was hosted in London last month and was won by 17-year-old Anna Huang.

Tom Phillips, LET CEO, said: “Golf Saudi has been an outstanding partner to the LET and has played a transformational role in creating opportunities for our players. We are delighted that Golf Saudi is continuing to invest in the Ladies European Tour.

“This investment represents a commitment to strengthening our entire organisation, supporting our players across the whole season, and enabling us to continue investing in the long-term growth and sustainability of the tour.”

Golf Saudi has been a partner of the LET since 2020, supporting the tour’s global schedule. From 2027, the two parties will also begin a new multi-year partnership around the LET Order of Merit program.

The season-long points race rewards performance across the full LET schedule, with the winner receiving a season-ending bonus.

The news comes in the wake of the decision by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), the chief backer of the Golf Saudi movement, to pull its funding from the LIV Golf League after reportedly investing more than $5 billion in the last four years.

The PIF Global Series completes its run at the end of the 2026 season, having delivered 29 tournaments across three continents since 2021. Events in Korea and China are still to come in October and November this year.

Among those PIF Global Series events was the Aramco Championship, held at Shadow Creek Golf Club outside Las Vegas in early April and the first to be co-sanctioned by the LPGA and LET in conjunction with Golf Saudi.

The tournament had a similar $4 million purse but will reportedly be left off the 2027 schedule.

From next year, the Championship becomes the focus of Golf Saudi’s tournament investment in women’s golf, alongside season-long support of the LET.

Noah Alireza, CEO of Golf Saudi, said: “Our approach to women’s golf is built around the growth of the game in the Kingdom – it is the foundation of everything we do and is how we create a sustainable return on investment and a return on impact.

“For us, the growth of the game is the growth of a whole industry. The players on this stage are the engines of that growth. We have learnt a great deal over the past few years about what works, and our focus now is on investing intelligently and building the right economic model – one that makes the women’s game commercially stronger and creates a pathway that lasts.”
