Sportdigital, the German sports-focused broadcaster, has extended its rights deal to air English soccer’s top-tier Women’s Super League (WSL) for another season.

The new rights agreement covers the 2026-27 campaign and will see Sportdigital air all matches of the expanded WSL that now features 14 teams (up from 12) and 182 league games.

The broadcaster will air matches either on its linear Sportdigital1+ channel or via the Sportdigital+ streaming app.

Three sides were promoted to the top flight ahead of the new campaign, with WSL2 champions Birmingham City winning a place alongside Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic.

The rights package also includes all matches of the Players Cup domestic knockout competition, which comprises the 23 clubs competing in the WSL and second-tier WSL2.

Sportdigital’s coverage for the upcoming season begins on September 4, with London Lionesses hosting Manchester United, featuring the debut of two-time FIFA Women’s Player of the Year Alexia Putellas, who has moved to the Lionesses from Barcelona FC.

Bendix Eisermann, managing director of Sportdigital, said: “The move of Alexia Putellas to the BWSL, among other things, shows the high regard the league now enjoys.

“In addition, there are numerous German national team players whom we can continue to showcase to our viewers every week.

“We recognize a high demand for top-level women's football in our programming and therefore worked hard to extend the broadcasting rights for another season.”

The WSL features a strong line-up of German international players, including Carlotta Wamser, Rebecca Knaak and Sydney Lohmann at Manchester City, Sjoeke Nüsken at Chelsea, Lea Schüller at Manchester United, Selina Cerci and Lisa Baum at Arsenal, Vivien Endemann at Liverpool, and Shekiera Martinez will join the German contingent at Tottenham Hotspur.

WSL bolsters Sportdigital's strong soccer rights portfolio, which also includes top-flight men’s competitions such as the Brazilian Serie A, Saudi Pro League, Dutch Eredivisie, Polish Ekstraklasa, and more.

The new deal is an expansion of the broadcaster’s previous one-season agreement with WSL, having aired at least three live games per week via its Sportdigital+ channel during the 2025-26 season.

Sportdigital took over the rights from fellow pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland, which secured the rights in Germany ahead of the 2022-23 season. Before that, Atalanta Media, the women's soccer-focused distribution agency, showed action from the league.
