Whoop, the US-based wearable fitness tech brand, has been valued at just over $10 billion after a funding round that included high-profile investment companies and athletes such as Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James.

The company has raised $575 million in Series G funding at a $10.1 billion valuation, with the round led by venture capital firm Collaborative Fund.

The funding round includes global participation from Qatar Investment Authority, Mubadala Investment Company, 2PointZero Group, Abbott, Mayo Clinic, Macquarie Capital, Glade Brook, B-Flexion, IVP, Foundry, Accomplice, Affinity Partners, Promus Ventures, and Bullhound Capital, alongside a group of prominent global athletes and individual investors.

As well as Portuguese soccer star Ronaldo and American basketball icon James, individual athlete investors in the round include Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry (golf), Virgil van Dijk (soccer), Reggie Miller (basketball), and Mathieu van der Poel (cycling).

Whoop said the funding comes at a “defining moment” for the company as it seeks to advance its global health platform. The investment will support the firm to “accelerate global expansion and scale its platform as a new standard for personalized, preventive health.”

The company will be aided by global healthcare firm Abbott, which will share its expertise and collaborate with Whoop on health tech innovation through its strategic investment.

From the proceeds of the Series G financing, Whoop is targeting further US growth and international expansion across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.

The US-based company claims to have over 2.5 million members around the world.

Will Ahmed, Whoop founder and CEO, said: “Our raise brings together the world’s most sophisticated investors, leading health institutions, and iconic global athletes behind the mission to unlock human performance and healthspan.

“We are building the personal health platform that people use to improve their health and livelihood.”

Whoop has announced several partnerships with sports properties in recent months, including a global tie-up with the Premier Padel tour last week.

The fitness brand also has deals with iconic Formula 1 motor racing team Ferrari and golf’s PGA Tour.
