US broadcaster Fox Sports will expand its coverage of Extreme H, the nascent hydrogen-powered off-road racing series, after adding Mexico and Central American rights to its agreement.

The two-year agreement will begin with Fox Sport airing Extreme E’s ‘Final Lap’ on October 4 and 5, a one-off return of the electric series being staged as a farewell before being replaced by its hydrogen-based spinoff.

Fox Sports will then air the inaugural Extreme H World Cup from October 9 to 11, with both events staged by Saudi Arabia’s Qiddiya City.

Fox Sports said its coverage will be available in English and Spanish across its linear and digital channels, which will offer live races, highlights, and exclusive features.

Extreme H is the hydrogen-based spinoff of Extreme E, which started in 2021 but canceled the remainder of its 2024 season after events in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and Scotland to prioritize the series’ transition to hydrogen.

The FIA initially planned for Extreme H to become an official world championship for 2026, but in December last year, it announced the launch of the Extreme H World Cup this year instead.

The new hydrogen event will feature an off-road race format to showcase the viability of hydrogen power as a clean energy solution. Organizers will also prioritize gender parity within motorsports by fielding teams that have an equal number of male and female drivers.

Ali Russell, managing director of Extreme E and Extreme H, said: “This partnership with Fox Sports brings Extreme H to one of the most vibrant motorsport regions in the world.

“Fans in Mexico and Central America understand the drama of racing, and we’re excited to share not only a new competition but also a vision of how hydrogen can shape the future of sport and energy.”

The new set of rights deepens Fox Sports’ coverage of Extreme H, having already secured US rights to the series in a three-year deal that also starts with this year’s inaugural season.

That deal, signed in October 2024, will see Fox Sports air the series until 2027 across its primary FS1 and secondary FS2 channels. Those channels have shown Extreme E in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean since its inaugural season in 2021, as well as across Southeast Asia and Australia.

The new rights agreement is just the latest of many as the series looks to grow its broadcast footprint ahead of Extreme H’s launch.

Most recently, Extreme H announced it had expanded its broadcast deal across Asia with SPOTV, the pan-regional pay-TV network, for the 2025 season.

The network will provide coverage in Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Hong Kong, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

In July, the series landed a major broadcast partnership with media giant Warner Bros. Discovery to provide coverage of the series in more than 50 territories across Europe via its Eurosport channels, with UK and Ireland coverage coming via its TNT Sports network.

It secured further coverage in the UK through a separate agreement with commercial broadcaster ITV.

In May, the series announced a significant rights deal in India with Sony Pictures Network stretching across linear and digital platforms and secured international sports broadcaster ESPN for coverage in Latin America, covering Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.

Italian broadcaster Mediaset, meanwhile, struck a deal to cover the 2025 Extreme H season after holding the rights to Extreme E since 2021.

Meanwhile, the Extreme H World Cup has retained its partnership with the Vodafone Business division of the international mobile and telecoms firm.

As the championship’s official technology and communications partner, Vodafone will continue to provide the series with advanced connectivity and digital solutions across its remote and challenging environments.

The partnership builds on Vodafone Business’s previous agreement with Extreme E, signed in 2022, which saw the company integrate 5G, Mobile Private Network, and Internet of Things technologies into the series’ operations to enhance team communications and broadcast delivery.

Amanda Jobbins, Vodafone Business’ global chief marketing officer and commercial director, said: “We’re proud to extend our partnership with Extreme H at this inaugural race. This championship provides a unique platform to showcase how Vodafone technologies like 5G and IoT can solve real-world challenges, from keeping people safe to reducing carbon emissions.

“Together with Extreme H, we’re not only enabling high-performance sport but also demonstrating how technology can drive meaningful progress towards a more sustainable future.”
