Peru has won the Volleyball Women Olympic Qualification Tournament of CSV (South American Volleyball Confederation) played at home this week (Lima) in front of a 7,500 supporting crowd and qualifies for Sydney 2000. Beating their both opponents, Argentina and Venezuela, allows the Peruvian to take part in their 7th Olympic Games. The other already qualified women’s teams are Australia (host), Cuba, Russia, Brazil (World Cup ’99 top 3 teams). In NorCeCa (North America/Central America/Caribbean), both Olympic qualification events are in progress: Women in Lakeland Florida (USA) where Canada and USA, with still one preliminary day to play, have already guaranteed a spot in Saturday’s championship and Olympic qualification match at the expenses of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The competitions resume today, with the final decisions scheduled on Sunday. The African OG qualification events will be played in Cairo for Men (Jan. 25-30) and in Kenya for women (Jan. 15-20). The Asian men’s qualification was played end of December and qualified South Korea, whereas for the women, the decision will come in June at the end of the combined Asian-World qualification event in Tokyo.
