Real Madrid Out Power Al-Nassar in Brazil Nicolas Anelka finally opened his goal account for Real Madrid in bizarre fashion as the Spanish side overwhelmed Saudi Arabian outfit Al Nassr 3-1 in the opening match of the World Club Championship. The ú23million summer capture from Arsenal scored with a freak block that looped in from 20 yards to put the Spanish giants ahead. Anelka, who had not previously scored for the seven-times European Cup winners in 16 games, sealed the game by winning a 69th minute penalty, converted by Brazilian midfielder Savio. Al Nassr, who qualified for the FIFA tournament by winning the Asian Super Cup in 1998, had created a shock by equalising in first-half injury time only for another bizarre incident – an own goal from goalkeeper Mohammed Babkr – to allow Real to regain the lead. Later in the same stadium home favourites Corinthians opened their campaign with a controversial 2-0 win over Raja Casablanca. The Brazilian champions had to wait until five minutes into the second half before breaking down a brave Moroccan side. Rising star Luizao, scorer of 19 League goals last season, slid in at the far post to prod home a superb cross from the right wing by Marcelinho. But it was their second goal that will hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. With half-an-hour to go, centre-half Fabio Luciano had a close-range header saved by Mustapha Chadili and then fired the rebound against the bar before Casablanca defender Hicham Misbah cleared off the line. But the referee indicated that the ball had crossed the whitewash to give the home side a decisive advantage. Both Misbah and Chadili were booked for protesting about the decision and the African champions never recovered from the blow.
