Russia to host 2001 European Futsal Championship

During today’s meeting at the UEFA Headquarters in Nyon, the UEFA Futsal Committee, under the chairmanship of Angel Villar of Spain, unanimously elected the defending European Champions, Russia, as the hosts for the final phase of the 2nd European Futsal Championship to be played in early 2001. The committee also used this opportunity to appoint Italy as the host nation for the final tournament of the same competition in 2003. In order to determine the seven finalists who will join Russia in the 2001 final tournament, Andorra, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Spain were chosen as the host associations for the seven qualifying tournaments to be played in September/October of this year. Exact dates will be confirmed in due course. The Russian UEFA Futsal Committee member, Semen Andreev, presided over the draw as a neutral, but nonetheless, interested party. The following groups were drawn: Group A: Croatia, Slovenia, FYR Macedonia, France Group B: Andorra, Ukraine, Finland, Latvia Group C: Hungary, Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Lithuania Group D: Czech Republic, Belgium, Slovakia, Armenia Group E: Poland, Portugal, Israel, Greece Group F: Italy, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Belarus Group G: Spain, Yugoslavia, Georgia Source: UEFA Click here for a direct link to UEFA’s website
