The EFES PILSEN CUP is a friendly tournament, which annually takes place in mid-January in Antalya or elsewhere in the warm southern coast of Turkey. 6 clubs are invited each year to the tournament. The clubs are divided into 2 groups comprised of 3 teams. Each team plays a minimum of 2 matches, and the group finalists play an additional match to determine the EFES PILSEN CUP champion. The participating teams last year included Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Sturm Graz, Spartak Moscow, Werder Bremen and Goteborg. The tournament was broadcasted live by Eurosport as the local channels of each club’s home country as well as Latin America and select territories in Asia.
The Efes Pilsen Cup 2 will take place in Antalya from January 11 – January 17 2003. The groups and match schedule is as follows:
Group A: Fenerbahce, Werder Bremen, PSV Eindhoven
Group B: Trabzonspor, Hertha Berlin, Spartak Moscow
Jan 11 Fenerbahce – Werder Bremen: 19.00 CET
Jan 12 Hertha Berlin – Spartak Moscow: 19.00 CET
Jan 13 Werder – PSV: 18.00 CET
Jan 14 Trabzonspor – Hertha Berlin: 19.00 CET
Jan 15 Fenerbahce – PSV: 19.00 CET
Jan 16 Trabzonspor – Spartak: 19.00 CET
Jan 17 Final: 19.30 CET
There is prize money of $100,000. The stadium is 12,000 and is expected to be fully occupied on match dates; hence, the ambience will be great.
Show TV will broadcast all matches live in Turkey. Eurosport will broadcast the 11, 12 and 17th matches live. DSF will broadcast the Jan 13 match live, and the 14-16th matches delayed. A Russian channel is expected to broadcast all the matches.
