SportAccord 2005 To Gather Major Sporting Decision-Makers In Berlin

The top leaders, senior managers and key decision-makers in world sport will gather in Berlin at the InterContinental Hotel from the 16th-20th April for the third annual SportAccord convention.

In addition to various meetings and assemblies of the 100 International Sports Federations members of the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee will hold its annual Spring meeting during SportAccord.

With over 1,400 delegates expected to attend from the IFs, Olympic Movement and sporting industry, SportAccord offers an unrivalled platform for those in the top echelons of world sport to meet, network and exchange ideas.

In addition, the IOC has agreed to allow the five cities bidding for the 2012 Olympic Games (Paris, New York, Moscow, London and Madrid) to have an exhibition stand at SportAccord and to make a 10-minute presentation to the general assembly of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) on April 17th. SportAccord will therefore provide the candidate cities with one of their last opportunities to meet the Olympic Movement’s key leaders prior to the IOC’s decision on the host city on July 6th in Singapore.

Hein Verbruggen, GAISF acting president, and Berlin Sports Senator Klaus Böger recently met in Berlin to promote the staging of the international sports industry convention in the German capital. “This is a great opportunity for Germany to show how much international sports are welcome in our city and our country”, said Böger.. “SportAccord has undoubtedly established itself as a must attend event in the international calendar of sports conferences and Berlin will clearly be no exception.” said Verbruggen.

Collectively owned and managed by GAISF, ASOIF and AIOWF(Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations), SportAccord encompasses the annual Associations’ meetings and General Assemblies, and includes open conference sessions, workshops, seminars, scheduled networking opportunities and an exhibition, all scheduled around the Associations’ meetings.

The event also brings together sponsors, architects, sports lawyers, broadcasters, bidding cities, event organizers, technology experts and other specialists to discuss the key issues facing the sports industry.

Topics to be discussed at the SportAccord conference and workshops include:

• What do you want from a host city?
