We, Sport Event Denmark, are intensifying our efforts at the world’s largest sports convention in 2009.

Monday 23 March the annual international sports convention, SportAccord, is opened in Denver, Colorado. Up to and including the 27 March, approx. 1,500 representatives from the World of Sport, among these the International Olympic Committee (IOC), are gathered to network, make arrangements and hold meetings.

SportAccord is indisputably the largest meeting place for the World of Sport. Therefore, Sport Event Denmark, The Danish Year of Sport 2009 and the Danish host cities are numerously represented and anxious to introduce some initiatives to enhance the international focus on Denmark as a competent sports event destination. Among the host cities represented are Copenhagen, Herning, Aarhus and Odense.

But also Her Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik is attending this year’s SportAccord to promote the Danish Year of Sport 2009 and the hosting of the IOC Session and Congress in Copenhagen in October. However, he is only attending the 3rd day of the congress, i.e. Thursday 26 March.

Other notables at SportAccord 2009 are André Agassi and Ted Turner (the founder of CNN).

Denmark is represented through, among others, Chief Executive Lars Lundov of Sport Event Denmark, who is making a presentation during SportAccord, Chairman of Sport Event Denmark, Lars Krarup, Chairman of the NOC and Sports Confederation of Denmark, Niels Nygaard, and former IOC-member Kai Holm.

– “Denmark will, no doubt, stand out more distinctly than ever at this year’s SportAccord. As an example, we have secured advance publicity in the media which are published during SportAccord. Besides, we have taken on the hosting of the farewell reception on Thursday 26 March under the motto of “Hosting the Sports World in 2009,” says Lars Lundov, Chief Executive of Sport Event Denmark.

The Danish contribution to SportAccord this year has been heavily increased in recognition of the fact that the congress offers an ideal opportunity to promote the more than 50 major international sports events scheduled in Denmark later in 2009. Just to mention a few: The IOC Session and Congress 2009, the World Taekwondo Championships and the World Wrestling Championships.
