Talks under Way to Integrate Men’s and Women’s Rugby in Scotland
Discussion has begun to integrate the Scottish Women’s Rugby Union with the Scottish Rugby Union.
The move would require approval at the annual general meetings of both organisations later this year but is already attracting considerable support.
SRU chairman David Mackay said: ‘This is a logical move. Rugby is a sport for all. Our approach is all-inclusive. There will be considerable benefits in growing the game for all when the integration is achieved.’
SRU President Bert Duffy said: ‘When I first took over as president of the SRU, I said that I definitely wanted everyone involved in rugby in Scotland to work together to support Scottish rugby. This proposed integration is a prime example of how we can all work together for the good of the game.’
SWRU Chairperson Sandra Kinnear: ‘We now have a great opportunity open to us to look at a new era of rugby for all. The prospect of this for the SWRU is exciting and we hope to accomplish an end result, which will be hugely beneficial to all women and girls playing the sport in the future.
‘This transition must be right and put into place with the correct structures, but with the continued strong support from the SRU and sportscotland, we are optimistic of the future of the game in Scotland.’
