Australian Rugby officials have warned that tickets for the Wallabies’ Sydney Tests against the Springboks and the All Blacks will sell quickly when they go on sale tomorrow morning. And for the first time, Australian residents will be able to buy their Sydney Test tickets on-line through the Ticketek website, www.ticketek.com.au as well as through Ticketek outlets. The battle for the Bledisloe Cup against World Cup semi-finalists New Zealand takes place on July 15, while the Wallabies take on the Springboks on July 29 in a replay of that epic World Cup semi-final from last year. “Get in early. That’s the best advice I can offer. There’s no doubt that we are looking at crowds of 100,000 plus for both matches,” says Australian Rugby’s Managing Director John O’Neill. A world record crowd of 107,042 packed Stadium Australia last August to see the Vodafone Wallabies score a record 28-7 win over the All Blacks, on a night that saw “Waltzing Matilda” re-born as Australia’s sporting anthem. Meanwhile the Springboks will be seeking revenge for Australia’s heart-stopping 27-21 win at Twickenham during the World Cup. Stephen Larkham’s field goal broke an extra-time deadlock in the match. John O’Neill says Australia’s World Cup success has attracted a new audience for the Wallabies. “There’s no question that these will be two epic Tests in their own right. The fact that the Wallabies became the first team to win the World Cup twice has scarred the rugby soul of both South Africa and New Zealand.” “The Wallabies attracted record television ratings across Australia last year and combined with the World Cup success, there is greater demand than ever to witness the spectacle of Test match rugby live.” Tickets range in price from $16.50 for a concession (v South Africa), with family packages also available for both Tests and a limited number of premium tickets at the top of the range price of $82.50 (v All Blacks). Ticket sales limited to 8 per person. Tickets are on sale through Ticketek on (02) 9266 4800.
