MBC Group to cover Boxxer across MENA

MBC Group has acquired the broadcast rights in the Middle East and North Africa for Boxxer events.

MBC Group, the Saudi-owned free-to-air broadcaster, has acquired the broadcast rights in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for the events of UK-based boxing promotion Boxxer.

Through the deal, MBC will provide exclusive live coverage of Boxxer events in 25 territories across the region on its Shahid VIP streaming platform.

It will also air pre- and post-event coverage and a range of shoulder programming.

Boxxer was founded in 2017 and has grown quickly, last year securing a domestic broadcast deal with the leading UK pay-TV broadcaster Sky through to 2025.

Its next event takes place on July 30.

MBC, meanwhile, recently agreed other combat sports broadcast deals with the Professional Fighters League US-based mixed martial arts series and the US-based World Wrestling Entertainment promotion.

Ben Shalom, founder and chief executive of Boxxer, said: “We’re delighted to announce this partnership with MBC Group and bring our events and fighters to viewers throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Our international growth is very exciting and the innovative Shahid VIP platform is the perfect home for Boxxer in the region.”

Tareq Al Ibrahim, director of content for Shahid VIP, added: “We’re thrilled to become the home for Boxxer in the MENA region. This partnership is the latest as part of our mission to bring more premium and exclusive sports content and offerings to Shahid VIP’s ever-growing catalog.

“Boxxer is a recognizable brand that offers top-tier boxing that we look forward to showcasing to our audiences, plus introducing the sport to future generations as well.”
