India's 1Sports offers new platform for Canadian Premier League
Soccer’s Canadian Premier League has widened its international television footprint by securing coverage on 1Sports, the pay-television broadcaster in the Indian subcontinent.
Starting today, 1Sports, which is owned by Indian media company LexSportel Vision, will show every remaining game from the 2020 CPL through to next month’s final.
The deal was agreed by Mediapro Canada, an arm of the Spanish sports rights and production agency, which is a partner of the Canadian Soccer Association.
As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the second season of the CPL has been condensed, with all fixtures taking place behind closed doors in Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island, and presented as The Island Games.
1Sports, which launched at the start of this year, is available on various Indian cable and satellite pay-TV platforms, and in Nepal and the Maldives.
The CPL will also be available via LexSportel on Dialog TV, the leading Sri Lankan pay-TV operator.
Other soccer competitions showcased by 1Sports include India’s I-League, North America’s Major League Soccer, Brazil’s Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, the Chinese Super League, the Coupe de France and the Scottish Premiership.
The CPL is already available worldwide via OneSoccer, the Canadian soccer portal developed by Mediapro Canada, but is also being shown live in its home market by public-service broadcaster CBC and now in USA by national network Fox.
