Mediapro's Gol to air boxing re-runs in DAZN agreement
DAZN, the international over-the-top streaming platform, has reached agreement with Mediapro to broadcast boxing on Gol, the Spanish media rights and production agency's channel in the country.
DAZN has partnerships in place with top boxing promoters such as Golden Boy Promotions, GGG Promotions, which gives it access to the fights of Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin, and Matchroom Boxing.
Indeed, last November, DAZN partnered with Matchroom to bring televised Matchroom Boxing events to Spain for the first time, with DAZN having launched in the country in February 2019.
Under the terms of the sub-licensing deal with Mediapro, Gol will broadcast re-runs of bouts on Wednesday and Friday evenings, beginning this Wednesday with a repeat of last December's super-lightweight fight in Barcelona between Spain's Sandor Martin and the UK’s Joe Hughes.
That was the first event under the aforementioned DAZN-Matchroom partnership in Spain.
Live boxing is not part of the agreement announced today.
Francesc Carbonell, Gol director, said: "The agreement allows us to continue offering the best sporting events to Gol spectators and to reach, thanks to DAZN, all boxing fans in Spain."
Veronica Diquattro (pictured), who earlier this month was promoted to DAZN chief customer and innovation officer, in addition to continuing to oversee southern Europe, added: "This new alliance with Gol is part of our global strategy and helps us to reinforce our objective of increasing interest generally for the different sports competitions that fans can then enjoy live and on demand in DAZN."
