Real Madrid create Twitch channel to roll out additional content
Real Madrid, the Spanish soccer giants, have launched an official channel on Twitch, the Amazon-owned live streaming portal.
The club debuted its channel on the platform prior to LaLiga’s virtual FIFA 20 tournament last weekend, which was won by their young attacker Marco Asensio. All of his games were aired live on the Real Madrid Twitch account.
Real will also use the channel to roll out archival content.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Spanish club said it wants to “increase the scope of our content in the face of the exceptional and difficult circumstances we are experiencing.”
This represents its latest foray into the digital world having recently joined popular short video platform TikTok.
Several clubs also have channels on Twitch, including French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and Germany’s Schalke 04, although those profiles are linked to their esports projects.
Real are committed to developing a presence in the gaming and digital markets as they are building a new esports facility as part of the $600-million redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
