DAZN brings in Prime Video's Skeels to drive customer acquisition and retention
DAZN, the international over-the-top sports streaming service, has hired Julian Skeels from Amazon Prime Video to lead its customer relationship initiatives.
As vice-president product acquisition, retention and payments, Skeels (pictured) will be responsible for developing the platform’s membership experience and building up a long-term customer base.
DAZN now has dedicated services in nine countries (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Japan, USA, Canada, Spain and Brazil), and is targeting others with its low-cost, no-fixed-term subscription model.
Skeels spent four and a half years at Prime Video, leading customer acquisition and payment expansion initiatives for the online retail giant’s premium platform.
In this capacity, he helped launch Prime Video in more than 200 countries and led Amazon’s integration with Apple and Google in-app payments and mobile operators in over 100 markets.
Skeels previously held product management roles at Apple, Microsoft and Multimap.com.
Welcoming the new recruit, Ben Lavender, the chief product officer of DAZN, said: “As we prepare for the next phase of growth, DAZN continues to attract top talent in the industry and change the way people watch sport. Julian brings a wealth of experience to the company, having launched similar services in hundreds of countries around the world, whilst always keeping the customer front of mind. We’re excited to welcome Julian to the team and the ideas he’ll bring to DAZN.”
Skeels added: “I'm delighted to be joining the team at DAZN. I've admired DAZN’s work for some time, and I have been highly impressed with the ambition of the company and the calibre of the team. It was pretty much impossible to refuse a role that blended my love of sports with creating great customer experiences."
