China to stage inaugural Winter Triathlon World Cup in 2020
The International Triathlon Union has announced that the first-ever Winter Triathlon World Cup will be held in the Chinese resort of Harbin next year.
The inaugural edition of the competition will take place on 4 January, and will feature cross-country skiing, mountain biking and trail running all on snow.
Winter triathlon is among the newest additions to the ITU calendar and the upcoming World Cup will be organised by the Chinese federation.
The ITU said it will offer travel subsidy for two athletes and one coach from 10 countries around the world by way of a grant.
The sport’s governing body also announced that the Italian ski resort of Asiago will host the 2020 Winter World Championships in February, while Romania will host the Winter European Championships.
