Mouthguards firm OPRO using UFC partnership to hit new markets
UFC, the mixed martial arts organisation, has signed a global licensing agreement with OPRO, the leading manufacturer of mouthguards through which the company will enjoy a significant presence in the sport.
Under the multi-year deal brokered by WME-IMG, the combined Hollywood talent agency and international sports and entertainment company being rebranded as Endeavor, which owns UFC, UK-based OPRO will have rights to produce specially-branded mouthguards and provide bespoke products to UFC athletes from 2018 onwards.
OPRO already has tie-ups with governing bodies including Great Britain Taekwondo, England Boxing, England Rugby, New Zealand Rugby, Australia Rugby England Hockey and the MMA federations of Germany, France and Italy, and sees UFC as a suitable platform to expand its business.
The UFC athletes will have the option of wearing OPRO mouthguards while training or competing and the firm will offer branded guards to fighters and fans for purchase at opromouthguards.com and across a network of key global retail partners.
Tracey Bleczinski, UFC senior vice-president of global consumer products, said: “OPRO has been a world-renowned manufacturer of mouthguards for more than 20 years and we are thrilled to launch this new global partnership. As an industry pioneer, OPRO has designed some of the most innovative guards in sports and we look forward to delivering these premium products to UFC athletes and the combat sports community.”
OPRO chief executive David Allen added: “OPRO has ambitious international expansion plans for the coming years, and partnering with another hugely progressive and pioneering brand who are growing exponentially all over the world, particularly in key markets for us such as Asia and the Americas, is truly exciting. This partnership with UFC reflects our continued growth in the combat sports market and we look forward to working with them as we kit out more and more UFC athletes with OPRO guards.”
