Sports.com Limited, Europe’s leading Internet and mobile data provider of sports content and publisher of www.sports.com, Europe’s most visited sports site, today announced the launch of Sports.com Ireland (www.sports.com/irl/) to add to the existing UK, French, German, Italian and Spanish services.

Sports.com Ireland will feature Europe wide coverage of football, rugby, Formula One, rally, cricket, boxing, sailing, tennis and golf and will also showcase hurling, Gaelic football, domestic rugby and soccer with live scoring, comment and content.

Sports.com Ireland, based in Dublin, will be headed up by former Gaelic footballing legend Liam Hayes and Cathal Dervan who were founding directors of Ireland’s first dedicated sports paper, The Title where Hayes was Editor and Dervan, Managing Editor. The Title later became Ireland on Sunday, a full service newspaper which was recently sold to Scottish Radio Holdings.

Previously Hayes worked for The Sunday Press and The Meath Chronicle. In 1986, he was named Sports Writer of the Year in the Irish national media awards. Hayes is one of Irelands best-known sportsmen and his ten-year Gaelic football career with Meath includes two All-Ireland Championship medals, All-Star awards and a best-selling biography, Out of Our Skins.

Dervan was previously Sports Editor for The Sunday World in Dublin, Chief Soccer Writer for the Daily Star in London and has worked for the Irish Star, Sunderland Echo and the Meath Chronicle. Dervan has also co-written biographies for Michelle de Bruin and Paul McGrath and has appeared extensively on Irish radio and television.
