Vancouver, British Columbia, December 23, 2009. NUSSLI, an internationally operating supplier of modular stadiums, has signed a contract with BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) a Crown Corporation of the Government of British Columbia in Vancouver/Canada for the construction of a new temporary stadium. It will serve as an interim stadium while BC Place is undergoing construction of a new, retractable roof.

The construction of a modular stadium with about 27,500 seats is a milestone in the temporary building sector in North America. The BC Lions Football Club in Vancouver/Canada is one of the most important sport clubs in
the Canadian Football League (CFL), and in 2011 the Vancouver Whitecaps FC will join North America’s Major League Soccer (MLS).

Starting in summer 2010, the team’s home stadium BC Place will be overhauled and transformed into a world class facility with the addition of a new retractable roof. While the work is being done, the 2010 season home
games of the BC Lions, CFL, and the first home games of 2011 season for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, MLS, will be played in the interim stadium built by NUSSLI. Nussli Special Events (Canada) Ltd has been contracted by PavCo with the design, delivery and assembly of the new stadium.

It will be roofed on the long sides. This modular stadium has a capacity of 27,500 seats, including 12 suites for 20 persons, commentator boxes for radio and TV along with press seating, floodlights, lighting and cladding. When BC Place is ready for occupancy, the temporary stadium will be completely dismantled. “We are delighted to be
setting a milestone in the temporary building sector in North America with our interim solution for the BC Lions and Whitecaps,” reports Bernd Helmstadt, Managing Director Nüssli (Deutschland) GmbH. “The advantages of modular stadium construction are installation and reaction speed as well as price and profitability.” The temporary stadium will be ready in mid- June 2010 after a building time of only three months.

For the construction of the stadium, NUSSLI will be able to use material from the grandstand construction that is currently being used in Vancouver for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The additionally required material will come from Europe and from regional suppliers in Canada.
