NTL announces 3-year global satellite distribution deal with World Sport Group
13 cricket events world-wide until 2003
Includes England’s current successful Sri Lankan tour

NTL Broadcast has announced that it is providing global satellite distribution for exclusive World Sport Group (WSG) coverage of the 10 international cricket tours in Sri Lanka, including the current successful England tour. The three-year NTL deal with WSG also includes the next two ICC Knock Outs in 2002 and 2004 and the Cricket World Cup in southern Africa in 2003.

NTL will provide its C-band satellite news gathering (SNG) facilities, as well as a team of dedicated engineers at each of the events.

Each event will be distributed to broadcasters worldwide via Intelsat and NTL’s teleport at Crawley Court, Hampshire. The use of Intelsat is part of a new long-term agreement negotiated by NTL to lease space segment on this satellite system. NTL has also invested in a new 2.2m CML C-band SNG system, complete with multiplex capabilities, to deliver the service.

Joanna Lewis, Head of Cricket Production at WSG, said: ‘WSG produces live coverage of a large number of sporting events world-wide, and we needed a company that could offer us a personalised service along with a reliable team used to working in far flung locations. Not only did NTL meet these criteria, but it also invested in new technology to help us broadcast these key events in the cricket calendar.’
