Sky, the major pay-television broadcaster, has retained rights to North American basketball’s NBA for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

Through the extension, live matches will continue to be shown every week on Sky Sports including a UK primetime evening fixture every Saturday and Sunday.

Sky Sports will air a total of 135 regular seasons games, as well as the All-Star weekend, the best matchups from the first two rounds of the playoffs, and the conference finals and NBA Finals.

Sunday's weekly primetime evening game will continue to be streamed for free on the Sky Sports YouTube channel alongside coverage on Sky Sports Arena.

In addition, Sky will show select pre-season matches including the NBA Japan Games as the Golden State Warriors face the Washington Wizards in a double-header today (September 29) and on Sunday (October 2).

The pay-TV network will also air the Atlanta Hawks vs. Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Abu Dhabi Games from October 6 to 8.

For the forthcoming season, every Friday, Sky will debut a new magazine show called NBA Fire, which will recap and analyze the week's action, as well as a weekly show on Snapchat, the popular instant photo and video messaging app.

The league’s own magazine show, NBA Action, will continue to be aired every Thursday evening throughout the season on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Mix.

Sky’s previous four-year NBA rights deal ended after the 2021-22 season.

The company had replaced rival BT Sport from the 2018-19 campaign and became the NBA's exclusive broadcast partner and official website operator in the UK and Ireland in a deal that included live games and highlights of the Women's NBA.

The NBA complements Sky's coverage of North American sports including NFL American football and Major League Soccer, although the latter will be available on the Apple TV streaming platform globally from the 2023 season.

Sky also holds rights to the British Basketball League domestically.
