San Antonio in Texas, US, will host the 2023 edition of World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) Royal Rumble, one of the promotion’s showpiece events.
Announced yesterday (September 7), the event will be held at the city’s Alamodome 64,000-seat indoor stadium.
It will be the fourth time that the Royal Rumble has been held in San Antonio and the third to be held at the Alamodome.
It has been staged annually in January since 1988, with this year’s edition having taken place in St. Louis, Missouri.
The 2023 event will feature two 30-participant matches – one for men and one for women – with wrestlers entering the ring at timed intervals and the last person standing declared the winner.
Tickets go on general sale on September 30, with ‘Priority Pass’ VIP and hospitality sales from tomorrow (September 9).

San Antonio mayor Ron Nirenberg said: “We are thrilled to bring back one of WWE’s most exciting events of the year to San Antonio. Royal Rumble will bring tens of thousands of WWE fans from around the world to the Alamodome, bringing both an incredible economic boost to our beautiful city and community outreach events that will give back in a multitude of ways.”
John P. Saboor, executive vice president of special events at WWE, added: “WWE is honored that Royal Rumble will serve as one of the cornerstones of the Alamodome’s 30th-anniversary celebration.”
The Royal Rumble is one of WWE’s most significant events behind Wrestlemania.
The 2023 edition of Wrestlemania, which will be held in Los Angeles, recently set a record for first-day ticket sales of any event in the promotion’s history. It was announced in July, meanwhile, that the 2024 edition will be held in Philadelphia.
Wrestlemania 38 in April this year secured the most revenue in company history and also its highest ever in-person attendance.
Elsewhere, WWE also this week (September 6) announced the promotion of Paul Levesque, who formerly wrestled for the promotion under the name Triple H, to the role of chief content officer.
It was only confirmed in late July that Levesque had been given the brief of head of creative for WWE in addition to his existing executive duties, but he is credited with delivering a 15% spike in Monday Night Raw viewership and double-digit increases in social media engagement since then.
In the new role, he will report to WWE chief executive Nick Khan and be responsible for creative writing, talent relations, live events, talent development, and creative services.

Meanwhile, Frank A. Riddick III has been elevated to president and chief financial officer (CFO), having joined as solely CFO last year.
He had previously held the CFO role on an interim based and also served on the organization’s board for more than 13 years.
The appointments come amid a period of transition for WWE, with chairman and chief executive Vince McMahon having recently announced his retirement after initially stepping back from his duties in June amid allegations of misconduct.
His daughter Stephanie and Khan took over as co-chief executives after his decision at the end of July.
McMahon, meanwhile, remains WWE’s majority shareholder.
In August, WWE raised its financial outlook for 2022 after achieving better-than-expected results through the first six months of the year.
