Foxtel and Kayo extend Australian Baseball League rights
Foxtel, the Australian pay-television operator, has renewed its domestic rights deal for this season’s Australian Baseball League.
Under the agreement, Foxtel’s multi-sport streaming service Kayo will show 48 regular-season games plus the playoffs while its linear Fox Sports channels will cover “a special selection of key games.”
This will mark the third-straight season Kayo will show the ABL.
Under the extended partnership, Foxtel and Kayo will also show all games of the 2021 Women’s Showcase.
Kayo had requested a dedicated Women’s Showcase of Baseball featuring at least four games over two days as part of the broadcasting contract.
The ABL said the agreement with Foxtel is backed by “the federal government’s support to under-represented sports like baseball that have often lacked broader mainstream free-to-air TV support.”
Baseball has been a key platform for Kayo since it launched in late 2018, showing the ABL, Boral Team Australia’s Premier12 campaign and KBO Challenge games, as well as the 2019 Australian Little League Championship finals.
Fox Sports channels have also carried the Premier12 and KBO Challenge games.
The new ABL season begins on 17 December.
