MySports picks up Swiss EHF and America's Cup rights
MySports, the pay-TV sports offering in Switzerland backed by cable firm UPC, has strengthened its rights portfolio with the acquisition of European club handball's secondary EHF European League and sailing's blue riband America's Cup.
MySports will show all the matches of Swiss side Kadetten Schaffhausen and Germany's Rhein-Neckar Löwen, which feature Swiss player Andy Schmid in their squad, in the 2020-21 EHF European League.
Kadetten Schaffhausen, the reigning Swiss champions, will meet Rhein-Neckar Löwen in the group stage.
MySports will broadcast the 14 group matches of these two teams, as well as all the playoff games should the Swiss team qualify.
It will also televise the Final4 on 22 and 23 May.
MySports is sharing coverage of the tournament in Switzerland with DAZN, the international over-the-top streaming platform that is a commercial partner of the European Handball Federation, which recently acquired rights to the sport's continental clubs competitions in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain for the next six seasons.
The Infront agency and DAZN handle the EHF’s commercial rights for 2020 to 2030 in an agreement worth between €500 million ($593.5 million) and €600 million in rights fees and services.
To avoid any conflicts of interest, Infront brokered the rights deal with DAZN in the four countries which runs from 2020-21 to 2025-26 and includes the men's and women's Champions Leagues, the EHF Handball League and the EHF European Cup.
Meanwhile, MySports will broadcast all the action from the America's Cup, beginning with the Prada America's Cup World Series Auckland and the Prada Christmas Race between 17 and 20 December. That will be followed by the Prada Cup, the Challenger Selection Series, which begins on 15 January, the winner of which will meet Emirates Team New Zealand, the defender, in the 36th America's Cup Match starting on 6 March.
America's Cup organisers recently promised the most viewed and accessible coverage of the race, claiming to have agreed 15 rights deals covering 120 territories, including with French-language pay-TV operator Canal Plus in France and Switzerland.
Earlier this month, MySports acquired
rights in the country to the new Extreme E SUV electric motor racing series. It is already the exclusive broadcaster of electric motor racing's Formula E, the sister series, in Switzerland.
