Megogo nets exclusive rights to NBA in Russia to 2023
Megogo, the Eastern European streaming service, has acquired rights in Russia to North American basketball's NBA in a three-year deal.
An exclusive agreement will commence with the 2020-21 season, whenever that starts, with the 2019-20 season, presently suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic, not expected to finish until October.
Megogo is also expected to show games in the remainder of this season non-exclusively along with long-term NBA rights-holder in Russia Viasat Sport.
Megogo will make the NBA games available to its maximum and premium subscribers in the Russian language, and will also carry NBA TV, the league's own channel.
While Megogo has the right to sub-license games to TV networks in Russia, it has no plans to do so, according to its director general in Russia Viktor Chekanov.
Meanwhile in Ukraine, Megogo has acquired exclusive rights to fights organised by Top Rank, one of the world’s leading boxing promoters. It will show the bouts on a soon-to-be-launched channel, Megogo Ring.
