European Athletics Championships cancelled outright
This year's European Athletics Championships in Paris has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The event was due to be staged at the Charlety Stadium from 25 to 30 August.
With Munich playing host in 2022, the decision was taken to cancel the championships altogether rather than reschedule them.
Dobromir Karamarinov, the interim president of European Athletics, while Svein Arne Hansen is recovering from a stroke, said: "We had hoped in these troubled times to offer European athletes a major event to aim for at the end of this summer.
"The health and safety of all athletics' stakeholders - including athletes, fans, officials, partners and everyone connected with the sport - is paramount."
Last week, French president Emanuel Macron extended a ban on mass gatherings in France until mid-July, forcing the postponement of the Tour de France and French Grand Prix.
The World Indoor Championships were due to take place in Nanjing, China in March but have been pushed back 12 months, while the World Championships, slated for Oregon, USA in 2021 will now be staged in 2022 because of the postponed Tokyo Olympics.
Meanwhile, World Athletics has announced that two further meetings in the season-long Diamond League - Eugene on 7 June and Paris on 13 June - have been suspended.
Diamond League meetings this season in Qatar, China, Sweden, Italy and Morocco have already been postponed, with the governing body saying it will look into alternative dates.
Oslo’s Bislett Games will go ahead on 11 June as planned "under Norwegian coronavirus regulations" and will be staged in an alternative format.
The behind-closed-doors event will be known as 'The Impossible Games,' with Norway's double world champion Karsten Warholm attempting to break the world 400m hurdles record and a pole-vault contest between world-record holder Mondo Duplantis and multiple Diamond League champion Renaud Lavillenie.
A full programme of competition has not yet been confirmed.
The next scheduled Diamond League meeting in the calendar after the Oslo exhibition event is due to be in London on 4 July.
