LaLiga goes FanWide in USA; Gil Marin named new first VP
LaLiga North America, a regional arm of the top Spanish soccer league, has announced a partnership with FanWide, a US website, to become its official bar network in the USA.
FanWide is a free site that enables fans to find out the closest watch party or fan community event at more than 10,000 sports bars across the country, and offers access to discounts, competitions and rewards.
Under the new tie-up, Bar Finder functionality will be available in USA on the LaLiga website from this spring, including maps to enable fans to reference their location in relation to the nearest LaLiga event.
The partnership will initially focus on the cities of New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC and Miami, with other cities to be added in 2020.
LaLiga North America is a joint venture between the league and Relevant Sports Group, the US soccer events and media business, and was established in 2018 to help promote the league and the sport in the region though various business and development activities.
Meanwhile, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the chief executive of Atlético Madrid has been named as the new first vice-president of LaLiga.
Gil Marin was the only candidate for the post vacated by Clemente Villaverde, and will serve a two-year term, with the option to stand for re-election.
Last December, Javier Tebas was re-elected unopposed to serve a third four-year term as LaLiga president.
