DAZN tops sports app revenue league
DAZN, the international over-the-top sports streaming service, has been named the leading sports app by consumer spend for 2019 by mobile analytics platform App Annie.
The OTT service beat apps from brands including ESPN, MLB, the NBA and UFC, in a year in which it launched new services in Spain and Brazil.
Based in the UK and backed by billionaire Len Blavatnik, DAZN now has dedicated services in nine countries (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Japan, USA, Canada, Spain and Brazil).
It plans to target others with its low-cost, no-fixed term subscription model.
Earlier this month, DAZN reported a 98 per cent rise in total streaming hours in 2019, from 256 million to 507 million.
The company said 62 per cent of its total viewership - 314.6 million hours - was spent on soccer, and that matches in the sport made up of six of the 10 most-streamed events of the year.
App Annie’s top sports apps by consumer spend in 2019 were:
3. MLB At Bat
4. Hunt App
7. GameChanger Basebal & Softball
8. Tencent Sports
10. Eurosport Player
