Radrizzani's Leeds in Amazon documentary produced by Eleven
Leeds United, the English second-tier soccer club owned by Italian media executive Andrea Radrizzani, are the subject of the latest sports docu-series from Amazon, the online retail giant, it was announced today.
Take Us Home: Leeds United will offer Prime Video subscribers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the club’s 2018-19 season, the first under charismatic manager Marcelo Bielsa, in which their hopes of a return to the top-flight Premier League after 15 years ended in the play-off semi-finals.
The six-part series, narrated by film star Russell Crowe, a Leeds United fan, will launch next month.
Chris Bird, EU head of content, Prime Video, said: “Take Us Home: Leeds United joins the great collection of live sports and behind-the-scenes docu-series on Prime Video. We saw that All or Nothing: Manchester City was a hit not only with Man City fans, but also football fans across the UK and around the world, so we’re excited to give Prime members an exclusive behind-the-scenes look into a fascinating year in Leeds United’s history.”
Radrizzani, whose Aser Media group also owns international broadcaster Eleven Sports, added: “We are proud to partner with Amazon Prime Video to present this exciting documentary that chronicles a remarkable season in the history of Leeds United. Last season, with Marcelo at the helm, we made huge strides in putting Leeds United back on the map and reconnecting the club with our local community and wider fanbase. We are delighted to be able to share a unique, behind the scenes perspective on the ups and downs, the emotion and the intimate moments that makes this club so special.”
Take Us Home: Leeds United is produced by Eleven Studios in collaboration with Leeds-based media company, The City Talking, with Anouk Mertens, chief operating officer of Eleven Sports, acting as executive producer.
It was also announced today that another Amazon sports documentary, with Spain and Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, will go live on 13 September.
Last week, Amazon announced that the Brazilian national soccer team will be the focal point of its next award-winning 'All or Nothing' series in 2020.
‘Tudo ou Nada: Seleção Brasileira’ (All or Nothing: Brazil National Football Team) has been produced by Pitch Productions, a division of the UK-based sports marketing agency Pitch International, and follows Brazil's exploits at the Copa America, the South American national teams tournament that Brazil won on home soil this month.
On 19 July, Amazon Originals released the fourth installment of its All or Nothing series with American football's NFL, this year focused on the Carolina Panthers. Manchester City and the New Zealand rugby union team have also been the subjects of series, while last year rival Netflix carried a successful documentary on Sunderland, then Leeds' rivals in the second tier, as they were relegated to the third tier in the 2017-18 season.
