Olympic Channel to live-stream inaugural African Beach Games
The International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Channel has today announced it will provide a live stream of this year's inaugural African Beach Games.
The event takes place on the Sal island of Cape Verde from 14 to 23 June.
Sal 2019 will involve approximately 1,000 athletes from 54 African countries competing in 11 sports including athletics, 3x3 basketball, beach handball and beach soccer.
Mark Parkman, general manager of the Olympic Channel said: “We are excited to stream our first event from Cape Verde to showcase their premier event to a global audience. The African Beach Games are a great way to provide additional exposure to these growing sports and introduce new sports to our audiences.”
The channel has launched on both the Roku and Amazon Fire TV platforms this year, following on from its addition to connected TV devices for Android TV and Apple TV last December.
The Olympic Channel was launched in August 2016 with the aim of providing a new way to engage younger generations, fans and new audiences with the Olympic movement. It is supported by the IOC’s top-tier ‘TOP’ sponsors Bridgestone, Toyota and Alibaba.
