Nippon Life and NTT join Coca-Cola and Toyota as Tokyo 2020 torch relay partners
Nippon Life, the Japanese insurance company, and NTT, the Japanese telecoms giant, have signed up to become presenting partners of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic torch relay.
Both companies have been part of the highly successful Tokyo 2020 domestic sponsorship programme since 2015, with NTT the very first firm to sign up as a top-tier domestic ‘gold partner’ in January 2015.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic torch relay partnership programme consists of three tiers, of which presenting partners - the highest tier - are permitted to recruit torchbearers and conduct promotional activities using the Olympic torch relay emblem.
Nippon Life and NTT join Coca-Cola and Toyota, the top-tier ‘TOP’ International Olympic Committee sponsors, as presenting partners of the torch relay.
Yoshiro Mori, president of Tokyo 2020, said: “We are pleased to welcome Nippon Life and NTT as Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay Presenting Partners. With the recruitment of these two companies, we now have all four Presenting Partners on board; their support constitutes the highest level of sponsorship for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay.
“This is the largest number of Presenting Partners in the history of the Olympic Torch Relay, and I greatly appreciate the support and encouragement of all of them. We are happy to receive the support of the two companies that have strong, widespread networks in Japan: NTT, which connects people through its communication services, and Nippon Life, which has provided peace of mind for Japanese people across the country for many years.
“With their help, we aim to deliver a safe and secure the Torch Relay, bringing excitement throughout Japan, and highlighting the unique characteristics of each region along the way.”
In December, Tokyo 2020 announced that their sponsorship programme had brought in $3 billion, and that a further $1 billion was expected.
