PSA partners with Grabyo as Facebook Watch to show live PSA Tour matches
The Professional Squash Association said today that it has entered into a partnership with Grabyo, the UK-based, cloud-based video technology expert, to “serve its global audience by enhancing its social and digital offering.”
The PSA said that it is using Grabyo’s platform “to produce advanced live streams for matches and publish real-time highlight clips to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram. The association also provides enriching experiences by engaging fans outside of match play, with insightful ‘behind the scenes’ content with players and greatest moments wrap-ups.”
The PSA added that using Grabyo’s Studio platform enables it to “quickly and easily create, edit and publish video clips to social media moments after they happen - helping to unlock the value of being first to market with video content to reach the vast social audiences who are engaging with video.”
The agreement comes in time for the PSA World Championships in Chicago, USA between 23 February and 2 March.
During the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions, the PSA Platinum event held in January, the PSA’s video content achieved over 3.5 million views on social media.
The PSA has signed a multi-year agreement with Facebook to bring live matches from the PSA Tour to Facebook Watch, the site’s video-on-demand service. These matches will be available to territories outside of Europe and Japan on a non-exclusive basis.
Live action up until the semi-finals for each tournament will be shown on Facebook Watch, as well as additional squash content, including match highlights and feature content. The semi-finals and finals will be shown live on Facebook Watch to territories in the Indian subcontinent only.
Alex Gough, the PSA’s chief executive, said: “Ahead of our showpiece event in Chicago, we wanted to take the next step in our commitment to media innovation. We want to ensure our global fanbase has access to squash no matter where or how they want to watch. We’re excited to continue delivering content that will connect with our fans and grow our fantastic sport.”
Gareth Capon, Grabyo’s chief executive, added: “We’re proud to be a part of such an innovative content offering. PSA’s media strategy is focused and forward-thinking, servicing exactly what fans are looking for, while being well-positioned to scale as digital audiences grow. Digital consumption is the future of sports media, and PSA is a fine example of how to put fans at the heart of everything.”
Grabyo’s clients include: Sky Sports, ITV, BT Sport, Major League Soccer, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Big Ten Network, Fox Sports, Univision, LaLiga, the English Premier League and the All-England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon.
