FAI World Air Games postponed for two years until 2022
The next edition of air sports’ FAI World Air Games has been postponed for two years, and will now take place in Turkey in 2022, the FAI, the sport’s world governing body. said this morning.
A statement signed by Robert Henderson, the FAI’s president, and A. Bertan Nogaylaroglu, president of the THK, the Turkish Aeronautical Association, said that both organisations were committed to provide an “exciting, engaging, professional and safe global event.”
The statement added: “By holding the event in 2022 we will be able to supercharge the FAI World Air Games and achieve these objectives.
“We will combine all aspects of the FAI World Air Games to provide a strong legacy for future air sports and aviation activities in THK and the FAI.”
Turkey was chosen to host the multi-sport air sports games in February, with events to be staged across Turkey in Ankara, Antalya, Eskisehir, Efes/Selcuk, Ölüdeniz/Fethiye and Pammukale/Honaz.
The opening ceremony is set to be held in Ankara, while the closing ceremony will be in Antalya.
To date there have been four editions of the World Air Games, the last of which was in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates in 2015.
New Zealand’s Henderson was elected as the new president of the FAI in October, succeeding the Netherlands’ Frits Brink.
