Atos first across the line as Lima 2019 targets international sponsorship
Atos, the international information technology company, has been unveiled as the first international sponsor of next year’s Pan American Games in Lima.
Under the deal announced today, Atos, a TOP sponsor of the International Olympic Committee, will be the official IT provider of the Pan Am Games and subsequent Parapan American Games in the Peruvian capital.
This will entail responsibility for the timing, scoring and results systems at the games, with Atos therefore reprising the role it had at the 2015 Pan Am and Parpan Am Games in Toronto.
Atos is well-versed in international sports events having been a major sponsor of the Olympic Games since 2001. Its TOP sponsorship deal runs until the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and it has separate agreement to provide IT services to the IOC through to the 2024 games in Paris.
Atos is also a worldwide partner of the International Paralympic Committee, in a deal to 2020.
Today’s deal was secured via a partner procurement process drawn up in an agreement between the governments of Peru and the UK and intended to guarantee transparency and equal opportunities for all participants.
Atos systems will be integrated in all aspects of the organisaton of the Pan Am Games, including workforce management, cyber security, volunteer recruitment, sporting results and commentator information systems.
In addition, Atos’ cloud-based platforms will be utilised in Lima 2019’s knowledge transfer process after the games to ensure a legacy for the Peruvian sports industry and future hosts.
Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, the president of the local organising committee, said: “Lima 2019 is the biggest multi-sport event in Peru’s history. With Atos' unrivalled experience and digital capability on board, we will deliver a first-class Games and show the world Peru is ready to deliver on the global stage. Just as importantly, Atos will help us elevate the Peruvian sports industry, so we are ready to lead in sport’s digital future.”
Patrick Adiba, Atos Group executive vice-president, CEO Olympic Games and Major Events, added: “Atos is proud to be appointed the official IT Partner of Lima 2019. We have an established track record in delivering digital services to large scale multi-sports events for over 25 years including our support of the last five editions of the Pan American Games since 1999. Today we are pleased to continue to bring our cutting-edge technologies and Games expertise and experience to help make the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games a great success.”
Earlier this month, Lima 2019 hosted a summit for potential sponsors of the games that was attended by more than 40 national and international companies.
In March, The Sports Consultancy, the UK-based sports marketing agency, was appointed by Peru's Department of International Trade to support the government in hosting the 2019 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.
Under the bilateral agreement between the British and Peruvian governments, The Sports Consultancy is working in both London and Lima to support the organising committee in pursuing its commercial strategy and collaboration with Panam Sports, formerly the Pan American Sports Organisation.
The 2019 Pan American Games take place from 26 July to 11 August, and will be followed by the Parapan American Games from 23 August to 1 September, with a total of more than 8,000 athletes from 41 countries competing in 38 sports.
