Barcelona add to regional sponsors with UAE bank
FC Barcelona, the champions of Spanish soccer’s LaLiga, have secured a new regional sponsor after concluding a deal with the National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (Rakbank) in the United Arab Emirates.
Rakbank will serve as the official bank of Barcelona in the UAE for the next three years, with an option for a further two.
Under the tie-up announced yesterday, the financial institution will issue co-branded products, including MasterCard Platinum debit and credit cards.
Meanwhile, Rakbank clients will have access to Barcelona merchandise and can win trips to watch the team’s home matches among various benefits.
The new deal takes to 17 the number of regional sponsors of Barcelona, which clinched their 25th LaLiga title last season, losing only one game in the process.
Last month, a Forbes study showed that Barcelona earn more from sponsorship than any other soccer club in the world, with earnings of $247 million per year, $45 million more than England’s Manchester United and $47 million more than Spanish rivals Real Madrid.
However, Barcelona now have two significant gaps in their commercial team after Manel Arroyo, the vice-president responsible for marketing and communication, announced he is to step down on 16 July, and he will be followed out by right-hand man Francesco Calvo, the chief revenue officer.
The 58-year-old Arroyo, who is also managing director of Dorna, the owner of the commercial rights to the MotoGP World Championship, cited “professional reasons” for his decision to leave the club.
