Havas SE lands global Pacquiao-Matthysse remit
Havas Sports & Entertainment, a division of the international advertising giant, is to market all commercial rights to the forthcoming WBA welterweight championship bout of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.
Havas SE has been appointed by Pacquiao’s MP Promotions and Events as the international media rights and commercial partner of the 15 July fight in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia against Argentina's Lucas Matthysse, which has been dubbed the ‘Fight of Champions.’
The deal covers worldwide distribution (excluding Argentina, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico and USA) across Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Africa, and includes media rights across all platforms and devices including television, broadband, mobile, radio and in-flight.
Havas SE will also oversee a comprehensive range of sponsorship opportunities, including both fighters' marketing rights, event and venue branding and on-air sponsorship.
Melvin Lim, chief executive of Havas SE APAC, said: “We are committed to tap on our international network to expand the reach of this event and break into key markets as well as grow new audiences for the sport. This premium fight also offers brands the opportunity to be associated with a legendary boxer like Pacquiao, and showcase Malaysia as a premium venue for world-class sporting events.”
Arnold Vegafria, head of sales and marketing, MP Promotions and Events, added: “This media distribution partnership underlines our commitment to leverage on this world-class sports event to raise Malaysia’s profile and bolster international tourism in major strategic territories worldwide.”
