IMG to distribute DTM's global media rights
IMG, the international sports and entertainment agency, is to distribute the global media rights to Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters after striking a deal with the Germany-based touring car motor racing series.
The two-year agreement excludes the popular home territories of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
IMG will be tasked with selling rights to the 10-event series in 2018 and 2019. The 2018 campaign begins with the
season-opening event at the Hockenheim circuit on 4 to 6 May.
In 2014, IEC in Sports, the Lagardère-owned agency, was appointed by Wige Media in a long-term agreement to exclusively distribute broadcast rights to the German firm’s portfolio of motor sports events, including the DTM. The contract was then assumed by Lagardère Sports following the housing of the various Lagardère-owned agencies under one roof.
At the end of 2010, Wige Media announced a deal with the MP & Silva agency to distribute the DTM rights in the Middle East and Asia to in a ‘multi-year’ deal. SN1 Consulting, the Munich-based sports rights agency, reached a deal towards the end of 2011 to distribute the DTM rights in Eastern and Southeastern Europe.
Achim Kostron, general manager at ITR, said today: “We are very happy to have found a partner in IMG, the world's biggest independent rights marketer in live sports broadcasts, to set up DTM even broader on the international stage. With IMG’s expertise we are looking to develop the show and entertainment formats for DTM events.”Sportcal
