SAP continues voyage with Extreme Sailing Series
SAP, the German software developer, has extended its sponsorship of the Extreme Sailing Series, the international ‘stadium racing’ circuit, for a further four years, until 2022, it was announced today.
SAP is presently one of the major partners of the series, and the title sponsor of defending champions SAP Extreme Sailing Team.
The company’s relationship with the circuit, and the team, dates back to 2012, and entails provision of business software and analytics solutions that provide enhanced insights to broadcasters and fans through live leaderboards and 2D and 3D visualisations.
In addition, SAP tools enable all the participating teams to analyse their performance and optimise strategy in between the races.
Elsewhere, SAP is a global partner of World Sailing, and remains involved in a variety of other sports, including equestrianism, golf, ice hockey, motor racing, NFL American football, NHL ice hockey, soccer and tennis.
The Extreme Sailing Series now features foiling GC32 catamarans competing in up 32 inshore races at each act, and this year's eight-stop series starts in Muscat in Oman on 14 to 17 March.
Scott Over, the commercial director of OC Sport, said: “SAP technology has transformed not only the fan experience and teams' performance, it has also enhanced the management and operational side of the Series through the development of the SAP Sailing Race Manager.
“The sailing landscape has changed dramatically since our partnership began, not least the introduction of foiling boats to the Series. SAP has enabled us to remain at the forefront and take the event to the next level of innovation, interaction and participation. We are so excited about the next phase of our partnership and the plans currently in the pipeline."
Lars Lamadé, SAP head of sponsorships in Europe and Asia, added: "We're very excited to extend our sponsorship with the Extreme Sailing Series and the SAP Extreme Sailing Team. Since 2012, sailing has provided a powerful test bed for our technologies and consistently performs year over year as a platform for our capabilities and innovations.
“As we look to the future, with the sport itself ever changing, the Extreme Sailing Series provides us with the right environment to innovate, develop and engage with more people in more insightful ways than ever before."
